FAQ

What is beef tallow and why do you use it in skincare?

Tallow is rendered fat from grass-fed cattle. It's been used for centuries as a skin moisturizer because its fatty acid profile closely mirrors the natural oils (sebum) your skin already produces. This means it absorbs deeply and effectively without clogging pores. It's rich in fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K — all essential for healthy, resilient skin.

Is tallow skincare safe for sensitive skin?

Yes — in fact, tallow is one of the gentlest options available. Because it's biocompatible with human skin, it rarely causes irritation. Many customers with eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, and other sensitive skin conditions find tallow-based products to be the only ones that don't aggravate their skin.

Where do you source your tallow?

We use only grass-fed, pasture-raised beef tallow. Grass-fed tallow is significantly higher in nutrients — including CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) and omega-3 fatty acids — compared to conventionally raised alternatives. We render it slowly and carefully to preserve its full nutritional profile.

Is tallow skincare sustainable?

We believe so. Tallow is a byproduct of the food industry — using it in skincare means nothing goes to waste. Compared to many plant-based oils that require intensive farming and processing, tallow is a low-waste, nutrient-dense ingredient with a smaller environmental footprint.

Will tallow clog my pores?

No. Despite being a fat-based product, tallow is non-comedogenic for most people. Its similarity to skin's natural sebum means it absorbs rather than sitting on top of the skin. Customers with oily and acne-prone skin regularly use our products without breakouts.

Are your products free from synthetic chemicals?

Yes. Every Petal & Pine product is made without synthetic fragrances, parabens, sulfates, petroleum derivatives, or artificial preservatives. We use only natural ingredients — tallow, botanicals, essential oils, and other clean additions like Manuka honey and magnesium.

Do you test on animals?

Never. Our products are tested by us, our families, and our community — never on animals.

How long do your soap bars last?

With proper care (kept dry between uses on a draining soap dish), our bars typically last 4–6 weeks with daily use. Tallow soap bars tend to last longer than many commercial bars because of their dense, nutrient-rich composition.

Can I use tallow soap on my face?

Absolutely. Many of our customers use our tallow soaps as their primary facial cleanser. The gentle, nourishing formula cleanses without stripping the skin's natural moisture barrier — something most commercial face washes fail to do.

What's the difference between your tallow soaps and artisan soaps?

Our tallow soap line features grass-fed beef tallow as the hero ingredient, delivering maximum skin nourishment. Our artisan soap line uses other premium bases like goat milk, coconut, and honey — still handcrafted in small batches with the same commitment to clean, natural ingredients.
